Bobbi Mastrangelo’s “Three Sewer Hitter” in Lake Wales Exhibit

Mastrangelo’s sculpture relief is included in the Solivita Artisans’ Guild Exhibit hosted by the Lake Wales Art Center March 4, – March 28, 2024.

The juried exhibition will include all genres of art including painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, tie-dying and batik, quilting and sewing by members of The Solivita Artisans’ Guild.

The Lake Wales Art Center is located in a beautiful former Spanish-mission style church. The address is 1099 SR 60 East in Lake Wales.

Mastrangelo’s art theme for over three decades has been based on manhole covers, water covers, grates and drains called “Grate works of Art.” In addition, the artist zeroes in on the urban environment and events for these covers.

Stickball was an inner city street game of the early 1900’s. A sawed off broomstick served as the bat. The ball was a pink Spauldine, a little smaller than a tennis ball.  Manhole covers were situated about 90 feet apart. Car tires served as first and third base. The three sewer positions were home base, second base and the outfield. So, a batter hitting beyond the third base was a “Three Sewer Hitter!”

Mastrangelo carves her realistic looking art from layers of light-weight polystyrene.
