Rubbings of Manhole and Water Covers

Materials: Aquaba rubbing paper, butcher paper, brown wrapping paper or any durable paper, rubbing block or primary crayons (peel off paper wrapping) brush, masking tape, film and camera.

 

 

1. FIND AN INTERESTING COVER DESIGN.

2. WRITE DOWN THE STREET ADDRESS AND CITY AND COUNTRY

3. PHOTOGRAPH THE COVER AND SURROUNDINGS JUST AS YOU FOUND IT.

4. TAKE CLOSE UP PICTURES OF THE WORDS AND SYMBOLS

5. TRANSLATE NON-ENGLISH WORDS, PLEASE

6. BRUSH AWAY SAND AND PEBBLES TO AVOID RIPPING THE PAPER.

7. OBSERVE THE RELIEF OF THE GRATE TO BE RUBBED.

8. PLACE THE RUBBING PAPER OVER THE COVER.

9. USE ANY OBJECTS TO HOLD DOWN THE PAPER EDGES.

10. USE MASKING TAPE TO SECURE THE EDGES.

11. RUB THE HIGH RELIEF FULLY WITH A RUBBING BLOCK OR PRIMARY CRAYON.

12. LIFT OFF THE PAPER AND REMOVE THE TAPE.
