Mastrangelo one of the Winners at “Best of the Best” Exhibition at Orlando Museum’s 1stThurs.

Just last month I had the pleasure of winning “Best of Show” at the 1st Thursday’s “Inside/Out” Exhibit at Orlando Museum of Art. This 1st Thursday, June 5th all the winning artists from the past year were invited back with larger bodies of work.  I looked forward to meeting the “Best of Show”winning artists at the Evening Reception.

Al and I entered the Exhibit Hall and immediately spied the First Prize Ribbon awarded to John Baker for his provocative piece: “Locked in Paradise.” It was an attention grabber, because Paradise was unattainable. The Photograph of Paradise was secured behind a welded grid.

John Baker is looking very proud.  He should be: with the coveted “Best of the Best” award.

Al and I passed by some more interesting art works.  When we arrived at my exhibit, Jim Hosner and a photographer were waiting for us. Lo and Behold!  There was a second award next to my “Inside 52GA-R” sculpture. Though it read: “Honorable Mention,”  it was the only other award  given by the judges that night, almost like Runner Up to “Best of the Best”  The cash award was presented by Jim Hosner while a photographer took our picture. I wish I had a copy of that photo. Here is one that Al took.

I was euphoric for the whole evening.  The artists convened outdoors for a group photo

Gladiola Sotomayor won “The People’s Choice Award”

The reception was a delightful social event, learning about the artists, making new acquaintances and networking.

All nine of us: “Best of the Best” will be exhibiting our art at The Mayor’s Gallery, 3rd Floor at Orlando City Hall from June 14- September 12, 2014. The Mayors’ Gallery is open Monday – Friday  8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.  Orlando City Hall is located at 400 S. Orange Avenue.

Hello Bobbi,
It was delightful to meet you on Thursday evening. We were the couple (friends) who came in just as you were arriving.
I am also impressed with your ‘grate’ art. It is impeccable, unique and truly beautifully accomplished.
I am a completely unschooled artist who enjoys painting at home. Most recently I did my first folk art, painting an old cupboard I found in a used furniture store. I completely enjoyed the process.
I am also a published poet. My 6th book will soon be out. (I do have an MFA in creative writing.)
Hope to see you again.

Guten Abend Bobbi,
Your piece was the most interesting to me, But the main thing was the get together of kindred spirits, exchanging of ideas, admiring the work of others and being inspired.

It all came together to a beautiful and memorable evening. the artists are all wonderful people to spend time with.

As for my cruise, I should have taken my Passport to the World (Languages) with me, will do so next time. Bobbi, a cruise is a bonanza for our hobby of speaking phrases in different languages. There were crew members from 72 countries and we did get to talk to many of them.

I am working on 2 quilts, want to get them finished so I can start a landscape work.
Gute Nacht
Gaby

Dear Bobbi,
May the Lord Bless and Keep you as you continue
sharing your great and grate talents across America.
Love in Christ,
Mary
